I was happy to see that makeup trendsetter Sephora is showing the classic cat eyeliner and red lips (think Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren) as a major look for Fall ‘09.

I love this look and all the retro pinup models show it off beautifully.

Stars & Stripes ‘09 at the Playboy Mansion

Miss Kitty Baby (pictured above with two marines) and her Pinup Angels helped organize the benefit which raised money for the Wounded Warriors project. I was thrilled to have my artwork included in the auction to benefit such a worthy cause.

I just posted a new painting on myspace titled “Dark Angel”. It’s a departure from my usual sugary sweet pinups, but fitting for Halloween. I worked with the lovely UK model, Necromantis on this piece, and hope to create more works based on her mesmerizing beauty.
This piece was done in oil paints to give it more of a painterly look befitting the fantasy theme.

What makes retro pinup art stand out from racier, more modern forms of pinup art? Ever hear the phrase, “a wink and a nod”? Well, if you’ve ever watched an old Bogie and Bacall movie you know what I’m talking about. Women like Lauren Bacall could seduce their leading man with a just a look - it’s all in the eyes!
In every piece I create, a lot of attention is paid to the look in the model’s eyes - trying to draw the viewer in despite all her other, more obvious assets. After all, the eyes are the window to the soul.

There are lots of new resources online to help you get that retro style pinup look. Even mainstream mass merchandisers are getting in on this trend. Perhaps most notably, the Spring ‘08 Victoria’s Secret collection has an entire Glamour Girl section (with everything from lingerie to office attire to swimsuits) that’s full to the brim with corset styling, high waistlines, capris, polka dots, and peep toe pumps.
This is my fave! A cute capri jean with corset style sweater and amazing peep toe pumps. VaVaVaVoom! If you want that pinup girl look, this is a great new resource - but don’t forget to check out some of the retro style retailers in the links section of my website for even more authentic retro pinup style.

Vintage Hollywood glamour - a look that started with the spring runway shows is super hot for fall - red lips, black liquid liner, and soft wavy hair. The exact look embraced by the models I love to paint. Sephora’s fall beauty catalog has all the goods, and if you go online they even have videos showing you how to get the look. Put you hair in curlers girls - it’s time to get the glam on!

I receive a lot of e-mails asking me questions about where I get my inspiration or what tools I use, so I’ve compiled a list and created a shop (powered by Amazon.com) that features all of my faves. I love on-line shopping, so I’ll be adding products often!

Below is the body of an e-mail I received from a casting producer for ABC’s Wife Swap. They are looking for a retro style family for an upcoming show. I’ve wathced the show a few times and although the premise seems ridiculous, it seems that both families learn a lot from the experience. If you’re interested you can contact Rachelle Mendez (contact info at end of the bulletin). Don’t forget to mention you learned about the show here and good luck !!!
ABC TV SEARCHES FOR RETRO & GLAM FAMILIES
ABC TV’s Wife Swap seeks families for remaining episodes for 3rd season. Casting Producers currently seek families who are passionate about all-things-retro and enjoy a glam sensibility/ wardrobe.
Ideal candidates would be families with vibrant personalities were everyone regularly visit vintage shops, enjoys rockabilly, attends car shows, and who love non-stop-bop! Fifties enthusiasts should apply.
All families featured on the show receive a $20,000 honorarium. Referrals for families are extremely welcome; the more the better! The show offers a $1,000 finder’s fee to individuals recommending families who are then featured on the show.
Potential families can live anywhere in the continental United States and should consist of two parents who have at least one child, age 6 or older, living at home.
The premise of Wife Swap is that one parent from each household swaps places for a week to experience how another family lives. It is an incredible family opportunity to both learn and teach different family values. The New York Post says, “It should be called ‘Life Swap’ because it’s not just the wives who learn something here. It’s the families.”
Thank you,
